She sits at the river bank every dawn till day break, engraved in silence, just to gaze at the undulating tide. She derives pleasure in such mood that transports her far away from her pains. It soon turns out to be a routine exercise for her. Her position as the head of all fishermen in the community gives her no joy. She claims to be waiting for the tide to bring her joy from God someday.
At her youthful days, she was a prayer warrior. She would pray with her deliverance team and the host of hell would be held bound. People consulted her for spiritual advice and God helped her to disseminate the holy writ to solve people’s problems to the extent that her pastor would hand over prayer requests to her with the solid assurance that God would answer the prayer after her intercession.
She interceded for anyone and everyone but never created time to build her personal life with God. After the church processions, she would start to think of how to read her school books and pass her examinations without involving God in her academics. She would start to plan how her entrepreneurial skill will yield more profit without submitting her personal issues before God. She would look out to examine the rich young brothers in the church and admire them secretly, hoping that someday, one of them will come to sing his letter of proposal into her famished earlobes.
She was hardworking, skilled, brilliant, and career-minded. She was so blessed at her endeavors even though she didn’t pray for her personal life. After graduating from the higher institution in flying colors, she went for National service and was posted to a very comfy company to serve. Her service year was so gracious and pleasurable. After service, she returned to her community safe and sound. Hitherto, no man ever asked her to introduce herself.
The eagerness of getting married is meant to build a burning flame within her, prompting her to call upon God to intervene in her life. But instead, she tried to be strategic about marriage. After her promotion in church to becoming a Sunday school teacher, she taught the word of God and took people’s prayer requests to God for them, yet, she would try to use her knowledge to solve her own problems. After fasting and praying to intercede for people, she would try to mingle with the brothers in the church, just probably one of them could ask her out someday. She became the friend of every brother in the church and almost became a flirt in her community yielding nothing positive.
Meeting a catholic brother became a pleasure to her when she realized he was interested in her, rich, cute and at least attends church too. They became friends and the friendship dived into courtship then the wedding plans started without praying for God’s consent. The brother exhibited a gentle character and adorably caring. She felt it was her luck to get the best of all things even without praying for herself. Her parents were proud of her, her siblings were proud of her, but the church of God was concerned that the female prayer warrior and Sunday school teacher would no longer be attending the church services. She felt it is an ego for a lot of people to feel her absence after marriage.
She got married and moved with her husband to the city but bearing the fruit of the womb became a big challenge for them. This time she understood she needed a partner that has the same belief as hers. They could not fast and pray together the way she was taught in her previous church. They could not visit her pastor for marital counseling. She had a seven-year marriage of wealth and satisfaction without a single child.
Then, her husband called her to sincerely apologize to her and explained how Reverend Father told him that God wanted him to be a catholic Father but he desired to marry. He made his intentions known by concluding that maybe that is why God has refused to give him a child, so he is determined to do God’s will by becoming a catholic Father.
This resulted in the divorce that brought her back to her community empty handed after a period of seven years being a full house wife. Her family members became so disappointed in her that they couldn’t accommodate her. She was outwardly spiritual but carnally minded which resulted in hypocrisy being the root of her predicament. She now has to find a means to live which made her the head of the fishermen in the community because of her academic status and entrepreneurial skill.
The river bank is now her abode, where she stares at the tide every dawn till daybreak, always crying out her pains to God in prayers and waiting for the day God will send the tide to bring back her joyful life.
After she has explained all this to me when I met her at the river bank, I decided not to mind her past, since God had convinced me already that she is the wife I had long waited for.
Matthew 23:27-28 “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchers, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
James 1:23-25. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For hebeholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
